52 Weeks Project: Week 12 – Black & White
Posted on May 27, 2011
Much like last week, this week’s theme – BLACK AND WHITE – reminded me of my early days in photography. When I took my first photography class in high school, we only used black and white film because the school did not have the supplies to develop color film. I’ve always loved shooting in black and white because it forces you to look at the world in a different way. Rather than relying on the vibrant colors you see, you must focus on the details, the light, and your subject. I rarely shoot in black and white now that I have a digital camera, so it was nice to return to my roots this week.
I’m excited to introduce my boyfriend’s awesome cat Atlas. Not only is he incredibly handsome and photogenic, but he’s also really sweet and playful. Since Jon has had Atlas since he was a palm-sized 8-week-old kitten, Atlas is very comfortable with people and even cuddles under the covers. Like most cats, his favorite thing to do is hide and play in cardboard boxes.

You can’t really tell how stunningly beautiful Atlas is in these photos, but I’ll definitely be posting more of him soon. He’s the kind of cat you’d expect to see in a photo on a bag of classy cat food.
Lola also enjoys cardboard boxes, but she will settle for any small space if there is no box to be found. Much to my surprise, I found her wedged into the smallest shelf in our kitchen cabinet a few days ago! I turned around and there she was making herself at home amongst the olive oil and spices.

I’m flying off to Colorado for a family vacation this Sunday, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to participate in next week’s 52 Weeks Project theme. But I will return with many photos of breathtaking Colorado to share! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!
