52 Weeks Project: Week Two – Luck

Posted on March 18, 2011

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we chose the theme LUCK for this week’s challenge.  If you’re unfamiliar with my new 52 Weeks Project, check out the inaugural post and click through the blogring to see everyone’s interpretation of last week’s Shadows theme.

I could have gone many ways with this theme, but most of my ideas centered around the idea that I am lucky to have these wonderful pets in my life and they are lucky to have such wonderful lives with my family.  I couldn’t choose just one photo, so I narrowed it down to two:

When I found Lola (left) in the street in September 2008, she didn’t know how lucky she was at that moment.  The night after I brought her inside, there was a huge thunderstorm that probably would have drowned the tiny bit of life left in my baby Lola.  She was severely malnourished and sick, but my roommates and I nursed her back to health within a few weeks.  Ever since then, she has been incredibly spoiled and become quite the mama’s girl.  I chose this photo of her lounging in her bed in the sunlight to show how lucky she is to have found a loving home…and how lucky I am to have her snoozing next to my desk everyday!

Loki (right) is demonstrating the luck that the Axelrod family pets have here in the house.  They truly have free reign.  The cats stalk each other from tabletops, rest in rays of sun on window sills, and curl up amongst the blankets on the couch.  I watch them roaming the house all the time and think “Man, that’s the life.  These are some very lucky cats.”  I’ve always wanted to photograph from under this glass table and I just couldn’t resist Loki’s adorable pink paws from this view.

We have had many new photographers join the project since we started it last week, so now the blogring is much bigger and there are tons of photos for you to see!  Next in the ring is my good friend Stephanie from Chase & Snap Pet Photography. Stephanie and I were the only photographers from the New York City area at the Passport Pet Photography Workshop and we recently attended the Edison Super Pet Expo together.  Go see her take on Luck and then click through the blogring until you return here!

It was tough to choose just these two photos, so I’m going to post some out-takes on the Wackydog Facebook Page soon.
