52 Weeks Project: Week 17 – Going to the Movies
Posted on July 1, 2011
One of the best things about our ever-growing group of pet photographers is that we’re always getting fresh ideas and new styles. We had a few people join recently, including Holly Montgomery who made quite an entrance with this week’s very creative theme: GOING TO THE MOVIES. Holly told us to “choose a movie title and find a way to interpret it into your photography.”
My first idea involved subjecting my mom’s orange cat to a pair of booties for a Puss in Boots inspired photo shoot. I’m hoping another photographer had that idea because I decided Colby would not be very appreciative of new footwear.
Instead, I found an old mouse toy that makes the cats go crazy and decided to channel the movie Mousehunt. The three cats usually rough up these mice and then hand them over to Houdini who mischievously chews up their plastic skeletons. Now unraveled and gutted, the few mouse toys that haven’t made their way to the trash are great for dangling and teasing the cats.

Loki and Lola

Bella
Each cat has a different style of play: Loki plays like a kitten, Lola plays like a territorial hunter, and Bella plays like a curious but too pretty to hunt kitty. I think those different personalities really show through this set of photos.
To see the other photographers’ movie-inspired photos, continue through the blog ring onto Karen Weiler of Posh Pets Photography in Toronto! Return next week for another installment of the 52 Weeks Project…I can’t tell you the theme yet, but I can tell you that this photo that I took sort of accidentally this week will be my inspiration!
