FAQ
Do you only photograph dogs?
Of course not! Although my experience is mainly with dogs and cats, I am willing and eager to photograph all sorts of pets. Horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, hamsters, mice, fish, tarantulas….as long as your pet will be safe, I’ll photograph it. The only creature I’m really afraid of is an earthworm (it’s a long story), so earthworm owners will have to keep looking for a photographer.
Where did you get the name Wackydog?
Wackydog is the nickname my dad gave his beloved dog Gavia when he was in college. Gavia was my first official pet, although I don’t really remember her since I was a mere babe when she passed away. Ever since Gavia, my dad has called any energetic dog “Wackydog” and loves to yell it out while the dog is living up to its nickname. During a late-night brainstorming session with my dad, we came up with many business names but threw them all out when he said “Wackydog!”
Can I be in some of the photos with my pet?
Definitely. My job is not only to capture your pet’s personality, but also to document your relationship with him/her. Although the focus will mainly be on your pet, I’ll probably include your hands and feet (especially if you’re wearing awesome shoes) in a few of the shots when the moment is right. If you specifically want photos of you and your pet together, please let me know at the beginning of the session. Try not to wear anything that is too matchy-matchy or clashy-clashy with your pet—simple solids are always best.
My pet is hyperactive/wild/jumpy/out of control. Will you still photograph him?
I embrace any behavioral differences and strive to document each pet as he/she is naturally. If your pet enjoys running like a banshee, then I will be sure to bring my running shoes. I have worked with all kinds of crazy animals and studied animal behaviour and training, so I am prepared to take on any challenge. I have many tricks (and treats!) up my sleeve that will calm even the wackiest of wackydogs. In the rare case that I’m not getting the photos I want, we will reschedule the session immediately. Although it is not required, basic training (sit and stay) is very helpful. If your pet is the ultimate energizer bunny, consider taking him/her for a 30-minute walk prior to the session.
If your pet has serious aggression issues, please do not book a Wackydog session until your pet can play nice.
My pet is shy and takes a long time to warm up to strangers. Will you still photograph her?
Yes, but please plan for a longer session so your pet has the time she needs to get used to being in the spotlight. I won’t even take out my camera until I believe I’ve gained your pet’s trust. After a while of sniffing, belly rubs, and tasty treats, even the most timid pets will start strutting their stuff for the camera. In the rare case that I’m not getting the photos I want, we will reschedule the session immediately. Please make note of your pet’s shyness when booking a session.
